Note: The response in each survey that received the most votes is highlighted in bold red. I usually list the responses in descending order according to the number of votes, but in a few cases I've decided that the results may be clearer or more meaningful if I list them in some other order. Incidentally, I do vote in my own surveys—and, yes, I vote only once. More often than not, what I vote for doesn't come in first place. In the results below, the symbol ¤ appears after the item(s) that I voted for in each survey.

Survey 31 - Week of November 11, 2001: Chris Lowe lead vocals (52 or 88 voters; see below)

Which of the following tracks is your favorite lead vocal performance by Chris?

A fascinating thing happened with this survey. As of late Saturday afternoon (my time zone), there had been 52 voters, and the results looked like this:

But as of early Sunday morning (just 15 hours later), when the survey was scheduled to end, there had been 88 voters (far more than ever before), and the results now looked like this:

So "Euroboy" leapt from near the bottom of the list to a tie for the top in about half a day's time. Nothing quite like that has ever happened before in these surveys. What I'd like to think is that one or more fans of "Euroboy" drummed up support for that track and inspired a surge of late but legitimate votes for it. What I'd hate to think, however, is that somebody circumvented the code that prevents multiple votes from the same computer, or that some enterprising fan logged on to 20 or more different computers (at a college or place of work, perhaps) to vote repeatedly for his or her own favorite. That would defeat the whole purpose of a survey, wouldn't it?

Well, I have no way of knowing what actually took place, so I'll leave it to you to decide for yourself which set of figures to accept as the final tally.
